California Federation of Republican Women - Southern Division

Welcome!
Members of CFRW-Southern Division are "America's Leading Women Leading America" and as such are part of the largest and most active volunteer political organization in the United States. Although women in California have had the right to vote since 1911, it was following the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, granting equal suffrage, that the women in Southern California took an active interest in good government and later formed and joined with the National Federation of Republican Women.

The strength of the National Federation of Republican Womens State and local clubs lies in the autonomy of the individual chapter. At the local grass roots level, women of the Republican Party find a source of year-round service and gain the education necessary for them to be effective in initiating political and legislative endeavors through their volunteer activities.

California, being such an enormous state with completely different needs and environment has separated its organization into three distinct divisions. The largest of these divisions in area and local units is CFRW Southern Division. This Division serves 8 counties in Southern California: Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura. Within this division there are 128 Republican Women Federated local units and over 10,000 members.

Our programs are similar to others throughout the state and nation but they are branded with our own Southern California values, needs and expectations. We invite you to learn about us through our website, attend some of our meetings and to join us in our quest for good government and qualified candidates.

FEBRUARY 22, 2010 - 154th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GOP

Grand Old Partisan salutes the Republican National Committee, established on this day in 1856 to coordinate nationwide opposition to the pro-slavery policies of the Democrats.

Republicans from many state parties held their first national organizational meeting in Pittsburgh on February 22, 1856. Presiding over this preliminary session was former U.S. Senator Lawrence Brainerd (VT), a resolute anti-slavery activist.

The next day, delegates chose the first Republican National Committee. New York's Republican state Chairman, Edwin Morgan, was then elected the first Chairman of the RNC. He had the immense responsibility of organizing the first Republican National Convention, to be held just four months later in Philadelphia. Morgan would be elected Governor of New York and a U.S. Senator.

We honor the patriots, the heroes, the visionaries who gave us our Grand Old Party.
